{"id":25291,"date":"2016-09-06T15:51:00","date_gmt":"2016-09-06T21:51:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/windriver.org\/?p=25291"},"modified":"2026-03-31T17:09:06","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T23:09:06","slug":"documentary-about-artifacts-of-wind-river-indian-reservation-to-air-in-fremont-county","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/windriver.org\/de\/blog\/documentary-about-artifacts-of-wind-river-indian-reservation-to-air-in-fremont-county\/","title":{"rendered":"Dokumentarfilm \u00fcber Artefakte aus dem Wind River Indianerreservat wird in Fremont County ausgestrahlt"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>What Was Ours<\/em>, a documentary that uncovers the story of three Wyoming\u2019s Wind River Indian Reservation residents and countless cultural artifacts, will play for Wyoming audiences this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"434\" height=\"640\" src=\"https:\/\/windriver.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/36c648e9-e04f-4869-b401-392e30fb0280.jpeg\" alt=\"Documentary About Artifacts of Wind River Indian Reservation to Air in Fremont\" class=\"wp-image-25292\" srcset=\"https:\/\/windriver.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/36c648e9-e04f-4869-b401-392e30fb0280.jpeg 434w, https:\/\/windriver.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/36c648e9-e04f-4869-b401-392e30fb0280-203x300.jpeg 203w, https:\/\/windriver.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/36c648e9-e04f-4869-b401-392e30fb0280-8x12.jpeg 8w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 434px) 100vw, 434px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The film follows three residents of Wind River Country\/Fremont County as they, \u201cnavigate the world of tribal identity, museums, and reclaiming [their] sacred items,\u201d said Arapaho journalist Jordan Dresser, of Fort Washakie, who co-produced the film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over several years, the producer followed Dresser, Shoshone elder Philberg McLeod and powwow princess Mikala Sun Rhodes as they pursued the stories of artifacts that have been removed from the Reservation, returned to it, and even learned to create new ones to sustain tradition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>What Was Ours<\/em>\u2019 Wyoming premiere will \u00adbe at the Peck Theater of Central Wyoming College in Riverton Friday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. and the Grand Theater in Lander Saturday, Sept. 10 at 2 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both screenings are free and open to the public, making this a notable opportunity to view an award-winning documentary about local matters and discuss them with Dresser, producer\/director Mat Hames, and executive producer Beth Hames.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>What Was Ours<\/em>&nbsp;played in the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/filmfestival.visionmakermedia.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vision Maker Film Festival<\/a>&nbsp;in Nebraska and premiered at the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bigskyfilmfest.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Big Sky Documentary Film Festival<\/a>&nbsp;in Missoula, Mont., then played at the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usfca.edu\/arts-sciences\/about\/human-rights-film-festival?utm_source=usffacebook&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=humanrightsfilmfestival&amp;utm_content=biolink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">USF Human Rights Film Festival<\/a>&nbsp;in San Francisco and the&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.filmfestival.gr\/default.aspx?lang=en-US&amp;page=448\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Thessaloniki Doc Market<\/a>&nbsp;in Greece&nbsp;in March.&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/americanhistory.si.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Smithsonian\u2019s National Museum of the American Indian<\/a>&nbsp;selected the film to screen at its film festival in August.
