September 12 @ 8:00 am - 6:00 pm $50

Uranium mining and milling was Riverton’s most important industry for almost three decades in the mid-1950s. The Gas Hills population was roughly 2,000. Jeffrey City was a bustling town of around 5,000. In this all-day trek, we’ll be exploring the area’s most important uranium areas. We’ll walk around where this metal was first discovered in the Gas Hills. Visit the Gas Hills’ three uranium mills, several mines, and some of its larger settlements, as well as some other interesting sites. After lunch at what used to be the Federal-American Partners village, we’ll explore the area south of Jeffrey City and the ghost town of Jeffrey City itself. Bring lunch and dinner, or money for dinner, at the Split Rock cafe in Jeffrey City. Transportation provided. Wind River Visitors Council Adventure Trek.

Pre-registration. Maximum 25 people.
