Le guide, Zach Larson, qui a soutenu sa th\u00e8se sur l&#039;uranium et les mines d&#039;uranium du Wyoming, a accompagn\u00e9 le groupe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jeffrey City s&#039;appelait \u00e0 l&#039;origine \u00ab\u00a0Home on the Range\u00a0\u00bb (Refuge des grands espaces). Lors de leur p\u00e9riple, le groupe a visit\u00e9 la ferme d&#039;origine et rencontr\u00e9 le propri\u00e9taire actuel, Bob Adams. Jeffrey City fut jadis la troisi\u00e8me ville du comt\u00e9 de Fremont\u00a0: une ville mini\u00e8re anim\u00e9e, dot\u00e9e de restaurants, d&#039;un bowling, d&#039;un cin\u00e9ma et d&#039;une piscine. La ville connut une croissance fulgurante \u00e0 partir de la fin des ann\u00e9es\u00a01950, avant de d\u00e9cliner au d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es\u00a01980. Aujourd&#039;hui, elle abrite quelques dizaines d&#039;habitants et constitue une \u00e9tape appr\u00e9ci\u00e9e des cyclotouristes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le festival du jade du Wyoming se d\u00e9roulait pendant la randonn\u00e9e, attirant un nombre inhabituel de personnes \u00e0 Jeffrey City, contrastant avec sa d\u00e9solation habituelle. Le groupe explora d&#039;anciens terrains vagues o\u00f9 se dressaient autrefois des centaines de maisons, pour la plupart disparues depuis longtemps. Les vestiges de la communaut\u00e9 jadis florissante de Jeffrey City \u00e9taient encore bien visibles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pris sous une pluie battante, le groupe s&#039;est r\u00e9fugi\u00e9 dans une auberge de cyclistes, t\u00e9moin de l&#039;hospitalit\u00e9 qui perdure dans la r\u00e9gion, malgr\u00e9 son statut de ville fant\u00f4me.
