St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church was recognized for its cultural importance and for its significance for Folk Log Construction and was accepted on the National Register of Historic Places on Dec. 11, 2023. To celebrate this achievement, on Oct. 27, 2024, Rt. Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori, Bishop Assisting, Diocese of Wyoming, and Rev. Charles Clarke of St. Andrew’s will unveil a commemorative plaque.
The Sunday service begins at 10 a.m., with the dedication at 11 a.m. A harvest celebration potluck will follow in the Fellowship Hall.
Locals built this humble structure in 1912 from logs hauled from Granier Meadows, ten miles away in the mountains. The Episcopal Diocese consecrated the church the following year.
Like the boom-and-busts of this gold mining town, this building went through its own boom-and-bust periods. In the 1960s, with a dedicated effort from locals, fans of the modest structure, and even people from “back East” refurbished the building.
This humble building was one of only 109 structures throughout the United States selected by the fledging National Committee for Historic Preservation in 1966. The church and other structures were highlighted in the committee’s inaugural Random House publication, With Heritage So Rich.
Everyone is welcome to join the celebration.
