Ice Fishing, Birding, and Skating at Boysen State Park
Get acquainted with winter with Women Who Hike & Wyoming State Parks! Our itinerary includes birding, ice fishing, and ice skating!
About this Event
Together we will be stepping into a one of a kind winter wonderland with Wyoming State Parks and Women Who Hike.
We will be exploring beautiful Boysen State Park in the heart of winter. Why? It’s incredibly beautiful and lends to all new recreation opportunities! *This event is for new attendees who did not attend our Boysen State Park event last year*
Boysen State Park sits at the base of Wind River Canyon. Participation in all activities is encouraged. We will have superintendent John Bass teaching ice fishing. District Manager Brooks Jordan will teach Wintertime Survival. The outdoor ice rink will provide for time on skates!
Cost includes shared lodging for two nights, all supplies (fishing gear, ice skate use, snowshoe use), and food. We will be staying in cabins (three beds per cabin – if you are coming with someone you would be comfortable sharing a bed with contact us for a discounted rate and we’ll be able to accomodate a few more ladies).
Planned Itinerary, Subject To Change
Arrive Friday by 5:00. It gets dark quickly and there is no cell service, so meeting before total darkness is necessary!
Saturday we will ice fish and ice skate, pending rink creation.
Sunday we will bird for Great Backyard Birding weekend with Audubon Rockies! You will be ready to hit the road by noon.
Gear Needed/Recommended
We will have ice skates, snowshoes, and fishing gear to lend out for the weekend. If you have your own and prefer it, do feel free to bring it. We also have sleeping bags to loan, the cabins do have heat. Warm baselayers/long underwear. Good winter socks, multiple pairs. Hat and gloves. Insulated/waterproof winter coat. Hiking pants and jacket. Waterproof/water resistant boots with good tread for walking on the ice and through snow. Microspikes/yaks are also recommended to have/bring.
Women will be responsible for buying their own one day Wyoming fishing licenses (around $18). Communication will be sent out ahead of time to ask about dietary needs, gear loans, and help with fishing licenses.
