Wyoming’s Wind River Country Featured in UK Media

The 2017 film Wind River, set in the Wind River Indian Reservation, brought four European journalists to Wyoming’s Wind River Country/Fremont County early this month.

The press trip was coordinated by the Wind River Visitors Council (WRVC), Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho tribes, Sony, and the Wyoming Office of Tourism. The schedule coincided with the DVD and Blu-Ray release of Wind River in England this week, and the itinerary was designed to share Wyoming in the winter and culture and perspectives on the Wind River Reservation.

The journalists’ impressions of Wyoming’s Wind River Country as a vacation destination and in the context of the film have subsequently reached millions of international viewers:

Andy Mossack interviewed on the BBC during the stay. Graeme Lennox’s feature ran in the Sunday Times in the UK and Ireland last weekend. UNILAD Adventure ran a video by James Cray on their Facebook page that already has 275,000 views. UNILAD also featured a subsequent article on their homepage by Joe Loftuss. Most recently, Mossack posted a wonderful account of his stay on Trip Reporter.

Jan. 5–8, the group toured around Fremont County, learning from members of the tribes and visiting the Reservation’s bison herd and wild horse sanctuary. They ate local cuisine, hiked favorite trails, and toured Union Pass on snowmobiles.

The journalists experienced this tailored visit and shared it with their readers thanks to the warm hospitality and expertise of individuals at the Wind River Hotel & Casino and the Shoshone Rose Casino & Hotel, representatives and elders from both tribes, Tribal Game and Fish staff, guides and hosts at The Line Shack, and many others who supported the WRVC in this endeavor. The WRVC and Wyoming Office of Tourism also shared live coverage of the tour on social media channels.

“International, extensive coverage like this is of incredible value to the tourism industry of Fremont County,” said WRVC Communications Manager Casey Adams. “We were thrilled to even have the opportunity and very grateful to our partners and neighbors for making it happen.”
