Welcome to Lander, WY

Incorporated in 1890, Lander, Wyoming was named for Frederick W. Lander, the engineer responsible for the Lander Trail: a wagon road traveled by thousands of headed West. The Chicago & North Western Transportation Company chose Lander as the western terminus of its “Cowboy Line” railway in 1906 and the city was known as “where the rails end and the trails begin”.

Today you can learn the history of Lander at the Fremont County Pioneer Museum and the Museum of the American West.

Plan your visit and discover some of the best things to do in Lander, WY, from strolling historic Main Street to enjoying numerous art galleries, unique shops and a variety of restaurants offering local beef, micro brews and more.

Lander is pedestrian and bicycle-friendly. Rent a mountain or road bike, and cross-country ski equipment and snowshoes for winter recreation. Stop in at one of the local stores and pick up equipment for fishing, rock climbing, or hiking.

Take in a round of golf on Lander’s 18-hole course or visit the well-known Eagle Bronze Foundry.
