Get into the BACKCOUNTRY

Wind River Country is known for its epic backcountry. Book a trip with an outfitter or guide and experience the vacation of a lifetime. From the Wind River Range to the Absaroka Mountains and the Fitzpatrick and Washakie Wilderness areas, you can access pristine lakes and alpine meadows.

Pick your trip

Base Camp Trips: Ride into a furnished base camp and let the guides take care of you. Settle in for a relaxed week and enjoy day rides, wildlife watching, fishing, photography and hiking. Choose luxury or rough it in style. Specialty trips include women’s yoga and meditation, fly fishing and hunting camps.

Pack Trips: Camp is set up in several different locations and pack horses carry your supplies.

Drop Trips: Make your own trip and hire an outfitter to pack in and drop your gear, and pack out. Drop trips available for backpackers into Gannett Peak.

Outfitters and Guides: Guided day and multi-day trips on horseback, llama or by boat. Experience the lakes and streams with an experienced fly fishing guide or see the Red Desert while a llama carries your gear. Ride the whitewater in Wind River Canyon and fish on the Wind River Reservation with any of our Reservation permitted guides.

Create Your Own Trip: You can rent horses and llamas and all the gear needed for your trip. Everything from tents, sleeping bags and climbing equipment.

Looking for something different? Many of our outfitters will do customized trips. Just ask!
