It’s Rendezvous Time

Every summer, you can attend the 1838 Mountain Man Rendezvous in Riverton to relive the days when mountain men, traders, and Native Americans met to trade pelts for supplies.

This rendezvous is the only reenactment of the annual gathering that takes place on the original historic site. You will be walking the same ground as Jim Bridger, Kit Carson, and Moses “Black” Harris, to name a few.

Explore the 1838 Mountain Man Rendezvous site and reenactment on the Old Yellowstone Highway or on the Rendezvous Driving Tour.

Rendezvous Schedule

The fun starts with a parade down Main Street in Riverton, followed by opening ceremonies and Native American dancing. Then the rendezvous begins with black powder shooting, tomohawk and knife competitions and numerous seminars centered around the fur trapping era. And ‘Traders Row’ is a great place to bargain for a souvenir.

The organizers pride themselves on hosting a beginners-friendly, educational rendezvous, offering a variety of seminars. There are family-day activities for kids and those not participating in the main events. Participants can attend seminars on fire starting with flint and steel, dutch oven cooking, flint knapping, Teepee set-up and organization, various trapping methods, historical information about the era, and many others.
