Winter in Wyoming’s Wind River Country
Winter in Wind River Country shifts how you move through the landscape. Snow covers higher elevations and open terrain, creating conditions for snow-based travel and quieter access to public lands. Activities shift to snowmobiling, skiing, snowshoeing and guided trips, while towns provide places to warm up between outings. Conditions vary throughout the season, so planning ahead is important.
Skiing, Snowshoeing & Winter Trails
Trails remain accessible year-round in many lower and mid-elevation areas. In winter, they are used for snowshoeing, hiking and cross-country skiing. Routes like Popo Agie Falls Trail and the Sinks Canyon Nature Trail provide options close to town.
Beaver Creek Nordic Ski Area, located near Lander, offers groomed trails for classic and skate skiing, with terrain suited to intermediate and advanced skiers.
