Summer in Wind River Country

Summer is the most accessible season in Wind River Country. Snow has cleared from higher elevations, trails are open and long daylight hours allow for full days outside. Rivers, mountains and public lands are all in use, with opportunities for hiking, fishing, rafting, wildlife viewing and scenic drives. Towns and communities are also active, with events, rodeos and gatherings throughout the season.

Summer Water & River Activities

Rivers and lakes are fully accessible in summer, with a range of options from whitewater rafting to slower stretches for paddling and floating. Guided trips are common on sections of river suited for rafting, while reservoirs and alpine lakes support fishing and boating.

Warmer temperatures and longer days make it easier to spend extended time on the water, whether for a few hours or a full day.

Powwows. Parades. Real Western Life.

Summer is a peak season for guided trips and cultural events. Outfitters offer pack trips, fishing excursions and other guided experiences across the region. Rodeos, powwows and community events take place throughout the summer, alongside visits to places like the Wind River Wild Horse Sanctuary and South Pass City.
